Journal #10

The debate between science and religion has always been a heated one throughout history. I believe that each side has valid points and valid research. However, scientists base all of their ideals on theory, facts, and evidence. The religious experts base their arguments mainly on faith rather than logic and reason. Whenever I say logic and reason, I always think of Spock from Star Trek. He always says "It is only logical." Well, I have never really watched the show Star Trek, but he says things like that a lot in the new movie, which by the way was amazing. Anyway, Star Trek, the movie at least, does kind of relate to the debate between religion and science. I would assume that Star Trek was one of, if not the first program to deal with such topics as futuristic space travel. Obviously, God is said to be in the Heavens, so space must be close. If the crew in Star Trek is traveling all throughout the universe, then religious critics have criticized it heavily I am sure. Because there are a few signs of God in the episodes, it is almost linking science and religion in that sense. Personally, I like to side more with the science side in this ongoing debate. I feel as though it is easier to believe truths that can be proven rather than strictly faith. That is a very loaded statement in that much debate may come from it. However, I would stand by my beliefs in a balance between science and religion which I would rather not publicly preach about in this blog. Anyway, I like the show Star Trek, well more of the idea, that it challenges the ideals and boundaries of faith and science. I think that if there were more shows such as this and using these ideals, then this topic would be brought up more and discussed and addressed. However, there will always be the religious radicals and there will always be the scientific radicals to debate this topic.
