Journal #29
I cannot say that I have a particular favorite CD or album, or for that matter, band. However, I have been listening to the band called The Black Keys a lot recently. I suppose this is mainly sue to the fact that I just got their CD "Brothers" for Christmas. I would most certainly recommend this album to anybody who likes good music. Their style throughout the entire song list is constantly changing for the better. With only two members in the band, they really have a nice sound that is not only bluesy, but it has definite shades of rock. When I first heard them this summer, I knew I had to hear more of them. This Christmas seemed to be the perfect opportunity. In my letter to Santa, I made sure to mention the CD specifically, and then I just hoped that Santa liked their music. But to better my chances, I told him all about their bluesy style and the singer's great and fitting voice. Also, I mentioned how they really mix up their style of music throughout the album. Some rock bands these days just play simple beats on the drums and a couple chords on the guitar with catchy lyrics just to become famous. The Black Keys however, are in it strictly for the music and no stupid gimmicks. For example, in the music video for their song "Next Girl," their is a stuffed dinosaur walking around looking at pretty ladies. At first, I though it was really dumb, but words started to roll across the bottom of the screen during the video. It said something along the lines of "The Black Keys do not support this video. Our producer simply thinks this dinosaur is hilarious, and we cannot seem to make him think differently. Once again, the members of The Black Keys do not appreciate this video and truly dislike it." After I read this, my admiration for the band grew exponentially.
