The Grapes of Wrath: A Few Joads (Grampa, Granma, Al, and Noah)

To introduce the novel The Grapes of Wrath to my world of literary blogs, I will detail some of the Joad family. The supporting character Joad family members that I will be commenting on are Grampa Joad, Granma Joad, Al Joad, and Noah Joad. The first, and possibly most important, Joad is Grampa Joad. Honestly, he is my favorite character in the book by far. He is absolutely hilarious with his terribly sinful language and comments. He is Tom Joad’s grandfather, so he is very old, but I do not believe that his exact age is specified in the book. He is the one who started it all because he founded the family farm. In my mind, Grampa is the most important character because without him, here would be no farm, and the Joads would be butchers or something like that, which is totally not as cool. Since I love Grampa so much, I was very sad when he left his original land and died. Granma Joad is also hilarious. She is a pious Christian, and she hates it that Grampa Joad is so full of sin and angry all the time. She always curses him with hellfire until she ultimately dies once they reach California. Next, Al is a sixteen-year-old younger brother of Tom. He is completely and utterly obsessed with cars, and for that matter, girls too. Even though he is a cocky idiot who is quite frustrating, he proves his worth in mechanics by getting the Joads and Wilsons to California. However, he pulls a jerk move by staying with his apparent love Agnes instead of leaving with his family. Finally, Noah Joad is the older, slow, quiet, and slightly deformed brother of Tom. I truly do feel bad and sorry for Noah. His life did not get off to a good start when Pa Joad panicked during his birth, and he tried yanking him out of the womb. Thus is the source of hid deformity. Noah just makes me want to cry because he is so saddening especially when he leaves the family because he does not feel loved. I love you Noah Joad.
